The original version of that fight was shorter by a page... which means it was one page long instead of two.
Page original size 5,5" X 8". Rough pencils. Grey shading, lettering and word ballons done in Photoshop These pages done for fun, and also as a good exercise in storytelling and planning on such a long scale, which I had not really done before. I am not planning on inking, cleaning more or coloring them. I simply do not have the time.
The Avatar universe belongs to Mike, Bryan, Nickelodeon-Viacom-MTV. All the characters belong to them, but a few of the extras are my own creation. Art by
I could have brought in a brand new bad guy. But when playing around a known universe, the reader expects a certain amount of recognizable characters to make an appearance (not that I'm using that many...Zhao likes to keep the focus on him). What would have most effect in the end: General Zushin (made up on the spot), or Princess Azula? It's a decision that can be hard to make. Mind you, it would have worked great if this AU consisted only of original characters. (and having a few pages of Azula kicking butts should be entertaining)
Well, you could have had it were Azula has become distort, confused not knowing who she was anymore and had a new villain manipulating her will penetrating to be her underling/lover/someone not as important.
Or that she isn't really evil just acting the part to keep all the unsavory elements in place.
Interesting...but for me, it would feel like diminishing the powerful character that she was (as if I hadn't done that with Zhao already, ha!) Actually, her forgetting who she was or her turning not totally evil would be too similar to what Zhao went through. I try not to repeat myself...much. Try!
Actually, Azula having a conspiracy theory to start up the war again isn't so farfetched. The way the show is going now it's hard for me to imagine what sort of relationship Zuko and Azula would have in the future. Would there still be the same sense of animosity or would age and cercumstance change the siblings?
Lol, Zhao's amazing! ^^ Those old generals are too surprised to move but Zhao just stikes a pose (and that ninja's gut!) lol ^^
Yay for your right Azula guess- have a cookie Haha, maybe he has "evil sense" detector (which must be pointing at him most of the time) or he's just plain very very suspicious of well intentionned higher officers. In any case, he managed to block that one.
But-but Zuko has the throne now! After all he went through to get it! She can't take that away from him! She can't! Azula<Zuko yes yes. Oh well, you can't help but admire how deliciously evil that girl is. And how middle-aged men are afraid of her when she's like 15. I still can't really accept she's younger than Zuko. She is right? That's what Wikipedia said.
Azula is indeed younger than Zuko (not by much)- and the events here are happening three years after the end of the war- so Azula is a bit older. Still way younger than these old military type. But she's royal blood, and if the current firelord is not a warmonger, they will try and see if anyone else in the royal family may be more sympathetic to their plans. She fits the bill perfectly. She's talented, ruthless, and kicks @$$. She is perfect!
She seems like an older sister. I don't know, that's just how I thought of her the first time I saw her. Maybe it's how she teases her 'inferior' brother. But then again, she's a girl and that's what girls do. I'm actually surprised Zuko didn't do anything to her that we know of yet. Well, since her name shouldn;t be said lightly, I suppose he did do something to her, but what? Jail? Exhile? Court jester?
